I posted last week about how PR is well equipped to get through any economic downturn. It appears that I’m not the only one to have this opinion.
WPP CEO Martin Sorrell is quoted in The Guardian this morning as saying that his PR firms are “firing on all cylinders” and that their growth last year has massively outstripped that of its advertising business.
“I can’t recall a time when PR has been so strong”, says Sorrell. "Something has changed and the reason for the change is online activity, where personal recommendation and personal communication have become more important. And it's clearly editorial and it's clearly not advertising based."
Research from the CIPR shows that the UK PR industry is worth more than £6.5bn (second only to the US), employs more than 48,000 people and has been growing at more than 10% a year.
